Same word, three different sounds
Say the word "book" out loud in your head with each of these — this is the difference that throws most learners (and plenty of native speakers from other regions):
Liverpool (Scouse)Fast, nasal, rising tone — "buk" with a sharper edge
Newcastle (Geordie)Warm, sing-song rhythm — vowels stretch out
GlasgowRolled R's, clipped consonants, rapid pace

- Knackered — exhausted ("I'm absolutely knackered")
- Gutted — really disappointed
- Cheeky — playfully rude (a "cheeky" pint or comment)
- Quid — a pound (£1 = "a quid")
- Mate — friend, or just how you address anyone
